Ok for talk sake lets say we actually understand our two or three poems.
We know about imagery and poetic methods etc.
How do we actually compare them?

i dont know since our teacher spends most of our time on english language but i think u will have to look at ideas, thoughts and feeling, metaphors and similes, enjambment(for the A*) and what message the poet is trying to put through and how it makes you feel. i hope that would do but my gcse exam for english literature is in 3 weeks time and im desperate.

Always refer back to the question title, and what it's asking you to compare.
Try to explain why the poet has done x or y, and what effect is has.

If you're comparing 4 poems in one essay, you can compare 2 poems in detail and the other 2 in less detail and still be in the running for a top grade.

Well, you always always always find a theme to link the poems. So if your doing for two poems in the anthology such as Kid and Before you were mine you would find a certain theme that is Relationships. Always find quotes and always use metaphors and similes and all that random stuff that you need to do. But always if you know more about two poems detail them!
Also, just remember PQC (Point quote comment) that's the rule we all use and thats about it.
But for the top grade you need to go into detail about the four poems and know them inside out.
Good luck in the next two weeks.
James (:
